HOW TO GET NURSING REGISTRATION IN AUSTRALIA

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

Nurses who hold active registration with NMBI can now apply for Australian Nursing Registration through Trans-Tasman Pathway.

HOW:

Nurses who are registered in Ireland can apply for New Zealand registration without having to take English language proficiency exam. Once you are registered with New Zealand Nursing Board, you are eligible to apply for Australian Nursing registration using the New Zealand Pin number.

DO I NEED TO TAKE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY EXAM:

No. If you are a nurse with NMBI registration, you can register with AHPRA without English language proficiency exam.

WHAT IS TRANS-TASMAN PATHWAY?

If you hold practising registration in New Zealand, you can apply for registration in Australia under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act.

This applies to the following professions:

You must hold a current practising certificate in New Zealand to be eligible.

Registration in Australia will only be granted in the same category as your New Zealand registration. Any conditions, limitations, or endorsements that apply in New Zealand may also apply to your registration in Australia.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE:

The whole process can be completed in 4-6 months. The timeline depends on how soon you submit the supporting documents.

WHAT IS THE COST:

Registration Costs

$300 (USD)   CGFNS credentials verification service fee

$485 (NZD) –    Nursing Council application and processing fee- NCNZ

$130 (NZD)  – Annual practising certificate NCNZ

$489 (AUD) – Application + Registration fee- AHPRA

Other related costs (set by each provider) may include:

• Translation of original documents into English (if required)
• Competence Assessment Programme fees (if required)
• International Criminal History Check fee: $149 (AUD)
